Researcher miniapeur laments that money and prestige ruined academia: while AI-slop papers exist in physics and math too, the prospect of high-paying ML jobs has convinced people that padding CVs with slop papers is a golden ticket. Quoted @jdeschena adds that as long as positions (master/PhD/internship/grants) require k papers at top conferences, the trend will continue.
