Amazon studio chief explains why the Sam Altman OpenAI biopic was axed, dodges the key question

Amazon MGM chief Mike Hopkins finally explained dropping "Artificial," the near-complete Sam Altman/OpenAI biopic, while dodging whether business ties played a role. The film was pitched in 2024 by Simon Rich with Luca Guadagnino directing; after Amazon's $38B cloud deal and $50B investment in OpenAI, Amazon pulled the film in June 2026. Hollywood widely suspects Altman pressured Amazon; Neon picked it up weeks later.
