Stately ships a SKILL that has LLMs author agent state machines through 5 validation gates

David Khourshid (@DavidKPiano) shared the new generate-machine SKILL in the @statelyai/agent repo, letting LLMs author agent workflows as JSON AgentWorkflowConfig.
Key workflow:
- Split environment and policy first: environment rules (TypeScript states/guards) are human-authored and verified with canReach/explorePaths; the LLM only generates the policy, where description = goal.
- Five key-free validation gates: validate → vocabulary → lower → lint → explore, run via verifyAgentConfig. No config may be handed back unless it passes all gates.
- Failures trigger a repair loop (max 3 attempts) with persisted traces; improving an existing policy from traces uses the separate improve-machine skill.
A concrete example of the 'LLM writes data, deterministic checks enforce correctness' pattern for agent orchestration.
