Microsoft winds down Oracle AI cloud rental deal that used A100 chips for Bing

Per Bloomberg, Microsoft is winding down its 2023-era deal renting AI compute from Oracle (A100 chips that powered Bing), declining to renew and switching off rented capacity in recent months because the older-generation Nvidia hardware no longer fits its specs.
The move is part of a broader reassessment of billions in cloud partnerships: frustrated with neocloud costs and delays, Microsoft has committed $80B+ to renting capacity from other clouds and wants more production in house and on balance sheet. Oracle says AI demand remains strong, noting September renewals of four-year-old GPUs at a 20% premium. CoreWeave stock fell $3 briefly on the headline.
