Ex-Rockstar Tech Director: Threat of AI Decompilation Ports May Force a Faster GTA VI PC Release
Ars Technica AI · rss · 2026-11-07
Former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij (who left in 2009) told Rock Paper Shotgun that the threat of AI-assisted decompilation ports could push Rockstar to ship an official PC version of GTA VI sooner, reports Ars Technica.
Context: the community is already piping the console version through DLSS-powered Nvidia GPUs on PC, and many expect an AI-assisted decompilation port in short order. Vermeij also recalled friction from the original GTA era, when the PS1 release crushed 256-color textures down to 16 colors — even though PlayStation versions outsold PC.
