Musk announces Cybertruck production winding down mid-2026 for Cybercab

Elon Musk announced on X that Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas around mid-next year to make room for increased Cybercab output. WIRED eulogized the sub-four-year-old polygonal pickup as "unloved, unwanted, and utterly absurd."
- Despite Musk once claiming over a million reservations and "off the charts" demand, fewer than 50,000 units had been sold by March last year; the stainless steel body is only made in Texas and has reportedly rusted in some cases.
- Kelley Blue Book data (via EVWire) shows 11,586 US sales in the first three quarters of this year, down 28% year-over-year.
- The announcement drew a mix of owner grief and mockery in the replies.
