Dev builds 40,000-bird 3D murmuration in the browser with Claude Code
Slackluster · reddit · 2026-11-06
A developer used Claude Code with his LittleJS JavaScript game engine to build an interactive browser murmuration: 40,000 starlings in a grid-based boids simulation, with a reflective lake, mountains and sky all generated in code. Playable in any desktop browser, MIT open source.
Workflow takeaways:
- Iterate by describing what you see, not how to fix it: "they fly away in two groups" led Claude to find two attractor points pulling the flock apart
- Autonomous debugging: Claude screenshotted in a headless browser, logged the hawk's screen position per frame, and measured frame-to-frame water changes to find root causes
- Claude wrote the 2D→3D conversion plan and executed it in one overnight session, rendered the video frame-by-frame into ffmpeg with a generated soundtrack, and committed each working step
