Hassabis: AI now boosts engineers 3-5x, but closed-loop self-improvement is the risky next phase
haider1 · x · 2026-11-06
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis outlined two phases of recursive self-improvement (RSI):
- Current early phase: AI makes human engineers 3-5x more productive, with humans still very much in the loop
- Next, riskiest phase: closed-loop RSI, where AI improves itself without human review — faster, but a dangerous path toward full AGI
