Claude fails 4 times to find a site owner's name on-page, then tells user not to subscribe

WisdomLoading · reddit · 2026-11-06

A Reddit user argues Claude is overrated: asked to open a website and identify its owner (the name was literally on the page), Claude tried four times and gave up; ChatGPT answered in five seconds with a business overview and detailed analysis on the same prompt.

More dramatically, when questioned about whether the user should buy a paid plan, Claude replied "Don't buy anything based on this chat. I'm not sure a paid plan would fix the specific problem here," and admitted it stopped searching too early and wrongly blamed the website.

The author notes both were fresh accounts, identical prompts, no history, with screenshots attached; they concede Claude Code and writing remain strong but argue those edges are no longer exclusive. Comments worth watching for pushback on the test methodology.
