Non-technical founder learned AI with ChatGPT as tutor — and it backed a 7-figure raise

Replying to Nathan Lambert (author of a post-training book), non-technical founder Kale Panoho shares how he learned AI from scratch, saying it let him hold real conversations with AI researchers and engineers and supported a 7-figure pre-seed raise for Tacitco.
His method:
- Build a glossary with real-world visual analogies from a domain you know (for him, rugby): "the verifier checks whether the kick went between the uprights; the grader scores how well you kicked it"
- Hire a coach with real-world experience: bring weekly problems, have them simplify concepts into your worldview, and build something each week
- Daily learning with ChatGPT beside you as a tutor
Lambert's original post notes readers credit his intuition-heavy post-training writing with helping them land jobs at labs — rewarding those who put in the effort to learn.
