ZeroRAG: decentralized peer-to-peer RAG retrieval with no global index
_reachsumit · x · 2026-11-06
arXiv paper (2611.07928) presents ZeroRAG, a decentralized routing layer for RAG document retrieval:
- Motivation: documents are owned by orgs/devices/individuals who can't or won't hand them to a central index (privacy, copyright, compliance); existing decentralized approaches reintroduce coordinators or need global structures like DHTs.
- Approach: each peer keeps only lightweight local state — bounded neighbor advertisements and a cache of recent routed queries; queries take a best-first walk that progressively rewires the overlay toward semantically relevant neighbors.
- Result: the network self-organizes and recall improves over time, with no global index or central coordinator.
Paper and code are public; relevant for privacy/compliance-constrained RAG deployments.
