AEO hack: mine ChatGPT's cited sources to find where your brand should appear
jia_seed · x · 2026-11-06
A replicable AEO playbook that treats ChatGPT's citations as a ready-made distribution map:
- Ask ChatGPT buying questions your ideal customer would ask: "best [category] for [use case]" or "[competitor] alternatives"
- Open the sources it cites and find ones mentioning competitors but not you
- Prioritize sources appearing across multiple related questions; give publishers a concrete reason to include you (relevant integration, missing use case, transparent pricing, original data)
- If your own page is cited, make sure it clearly explains who the product is for and how it compares
- Track whether your brand starts appearing across those same questions over time
