Open-source local coding agent dl.new launches with 50M free DeepSeek tokens a week
sahilypatel · x · 2026-11-06
Developer sinasanm launched Directionally Local (dl.new), an open-source coding agent/harness that runs entirely on your own machine—pitched as "the coding agent nobody can take away," with no external kill switch.
- Free quota: sign-ups get 200M DeepSeek V4.1 Flash tokens every week during early access; afterwards bring your own keys (no telemetry) or subscribe; referring a friend earns both 10M tokens
- Serving: DeepSeek is served via luminalai; free gpt sol/luna/astra tokens for a small cohort of early users
- Demo: running dl in a project folder starts Autopilot—picking "run the tests and fix what fails," it runs npm test, finds a discount applied twice in src/cart.js, fixes it with a one-line edit, reruns all 24 tests, and opens a PR
- End game: a fully offline AI-native computer, starting with this installable local harness
