Google Auto-Enables Native Checkout in AI Mode & Gemini for More Merchants
gaganghotra_ · x · 2026-11-06
Google is emailing Merchant Center merchants that their Shopify products are now automatically eligible for native checkout via the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), letting shoppers buy directly inside Google Search's AI Mode and Gemini with Google Pay—no redirect to the merchant's site.
Key points:
- UCP checkout launched in February; last Friday Google expanded eligibility widely, and more merchants received notices this week
- Eligible products are auto-included; merchants who want buyers on their own site must opt out in Shopify admin under Sales channels > Agentic
- Google claims merchants retain full ownership of customer relationships, data, and sales
The poster expects nearly every Shopify merchant to have access by Black Friday—a major rollout of the agentic shopping entry point.
