Kevin Rinz's paper on AI mentions in job ads was desk-rejected by ReStud Insights for being "largely descriptive" rather than offering a new result. Economist Soumitra Shukla pushed back with four arguments: descriptive work is good work, collages of independent evidence make robust findings, we urgently need evidence on how AI is changing jobs for retraining policy, and job ads are a high-resolution window into employer demand.
