Cloudflare now auto-retries Durable Object calls up to 4 times, no retry loops needed
dinasaur_404 · x · 2026-11-06
Cloudflare shipped automatic retries for Durable Object calls: the runtime now retries fetch() and RPC calls that fail with a retryable error before reaching the object, whether the caller is a Worker or another Durable Object.
- Up to 4 retries by default, no retry started more than 10s after the initial call
- Errors thrown by your own object code or with .overloaded=true are never retried
- If the connection drops and delivery is uncertain, the runtime retries, but the object rejects duplicates so a method never runs twice — unless you opt in with retryable() from cloudflare:durable-objects
- Docs show a Cart example: idempotent setQuantity marked retryable, non-idempotent addOne not marked
