SkillBench raises preseed funding as Matt Beane scales his skill-preservation thesis
mattbeane · x · 2026-11-06
Matt Beane revealed that his startup SkillBench received preseed funding in 2024 (backed by Jeff Wilke and others), the same year his book The Skill Code was published. The book argues that human skill is built by working alongside more experienced people — from plumbers to surgeons — and that the push for AI-driven productivity is severing the novice-expert bond, a looming multi-trillion-dollar problem. With cofounder Juho Kim, he has spent years building systems where intelligent automation reinforces rather than erodes skill development.
