Google donates Agent Substrate, gVisor, and OpenRL to CNCF; Agent Substrate hits 1.0 GA

Google announced the donation of three open source projects — Agent Substrate, gVisor, and OpenRL — to the CNCF after their acceptance into the CNCF Sandbox, and Agent Substrate has reached 1.0 and is generally available on GKE.
Google frames the shift as AI moving from human scale to agent scale: agents run continuous stateful loops of proposing actions, spawning subagents, and executing code in sandboxes, requiring the same open foundation and neutral governance CNCF brought to containers. Agent Substrate scales isolated agent environments without idle compute overhead while agents wait on model turns or human input, runs on any Kubernetes cluster across CPUs, GPUs, or TPUs, and gVisor is on a path toward Incubation.
