No Windows 12: Microsoft preps full-OS-swap Windows 11 27H2 for 2027
tomwarren · x · 2026-11-06
The Verge's Tom Warren reports Microsoft has no Windows 12 plans for now. Sources say the company is already preparing Windows 11 version 27H2 for 2027, a full OS swap in the mold of 24H2 that replaces or upgrades major parts of the OS — unlike the enablement-package releases 25H2 and 26H2. After acknowledging Windows 11's bloat and reliability issues, Microsoft's focus has shifted to underlying performance, with quality as the core goal of the next big release. Microsoft began planning a return to a three-year cycle in 2022, and while many expected Windows 12, it stuck with major Windows 11 updates instead.
