Hacker turns old Echo Dot into a Hermes agent speaker, open-sources the Home Assistant setup
Teknium · x · 2026-11-05
Developer @0xdippo replaced Alexa on an old Amazon Echo Dot with Nous Research's Hermes: echo-dot-assist swaps the Alexa client while keeping Fire OS and the Echo's audio pipeline, and a custom hermes-voice Home Assistant integration connects the Assist satellite to a Hermes Agent profile with memory and tools.
The code, setup skill and hardware recovery notes are public (MIT, majormorlabs/hermes-voice). Nous Research's Teknium amplified it, saying he wants to eventually replace Google Home/Alexa for everyone.
