Meta Buys Conductor as AI Giants Race to Snap Up Developer Coding Tools
shashib · x · 2026-11-05
Meta acquired Conductor, a Mac app that lets one engineer run coding agents from multiple vendors (Claude Code, Codex) side by side in isolated codebase copies, for an undisclosed sum. The team joins Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman at Meta Superintelligence Labs, whose Muse Code terminal agent entered beta in August; Conductor Cloud shut down 16 days after the announcement. The same day, OpenAI agreed to buy Pierre Computer Company, whose open-source tools (including Code Storage) Codex uses today. The post tallies the M&A wave of coding/agent tool deals since July 2025, including SpaceX's $60B purchase of Cursor, arguing AI giants are racing to own how software gets built.
