Painted blobs to fire, smoke and water: open-weights VFX app Paint a plate
xCaYuSx · reddit · 2026-11-05
The author of Paint a plate — their open-weights VFX app for Comfy's Open Source Higgsfield challenge — shows new v1.0→1.11 features and demo shots: painted blobs turning into fire, smoke and water, set extensions, green screen swaps and relighting, all in ComfyUI.
New features:
- Relight from a light plan: paint where light comes from; black strokes darken areas.
- Paint follows the image's style (sketch on an illustrated plate returns as illustration).
- Per-pass comparison in the Render panel (Ctrl+click wipe, W highlights edits).
- HDR plates stay HDR via Lightricks' SDR-to-HDR IC-LoRA.
- ainvfx-fluid IC-LoRA retrained on an open synthetic dataset (176 scenes, CC BY 4.0).
It's a ComfyUI node pack plus a served page; every scene exports as a standalone ComfyUI graph. Apache 2.0, with write-up and video.
