Pacing agent pipelines to human review: evidence first, fail soft
gerardsans · x · 2026-11-05
Part 2/4 of an agent-engineering series on keeping humans in control while agents do the typing: run cheap automatic checks first, then an independent cross-vendor reviewer model (nobody marks their own homework); pace the pipeline to the speed humans can review, turning every human catch into a programmatic check; fail soft with minimal-permission night-shift machines that can't merge or deploy, labeling guesses as guesses; and use a three-zone architecture (deterministic routines, sandboxed agents, human review) with fast classifiers routing tasks to the lowest safe zone.
