Mathematician: AI can grind lemmas, but 100-page arXiv proofs must ship with full Lean formalization
LucaAmb · x · 2026-11-05
Mathematician Scott Armstrong argues AI tools are great for turning convincing proof outlines into complete (slop) proofs in PDE-style fields with very long technical proofs — humans shouldn't grind lemmas by hand anymore. But any 100+ page half-slop vibe-tex proof posted to arXiv must come with a complete Lean formalization, which is now trivially easy to produce. Papers submitted without Lean to journals he sits on the editorial board of may bounce back with a resubmission request.
