NYT Launches 15-Minute AI Music Lesson: Can Humans Beat the Machine?
nordicinst · x · 2026-11-05
The New York Times' Learning Network released a 15-minute lesson plan, 'A.I. Music,' built around Matt Richtel's piece 'Musicians Versus the A.I. Machine. Why Bother Writing Songs Anymore?' In it, five musicians spent a weekend creating new songs from scratch in a 'carbon life-forms versus silicon chips' cage match against AI. The lesson asks students whether humans can do better than AI, whether listeners can tell the difference, and whether learning about the human creative process changes what they hear. The plan was suggested by a high-school ESL teacher exploring the value of human creation in the AI era.
