The agent reasoning loop explained: how a harness turns one Q&A into many steps
PawelHuryn · x · 2026-11-05
Step 1 of the Mini Harness series explains the reasoning loop: a single model call is one question and one answer, but fixing a bug takes many steps. The harness sends the conversation to the model, runs the actions it requests, and sends results back, looping until the model's reply asks for nothing. A diagram shows the full flow including permission-gated execution and graceful handling of mid-loop failures (Ctrl-C, network drops, refusals) via short notes appended to the conversation.
