Pharma executives push back on AI CEOs' claim that AI will cure most diseases in a decade

Responding to Anthropic's CEO claim that AI could cure most human diseases within a decade, Vertex Pharmaceuticals executive chairman Jeff Leiden and other pharma leaders pushed back: biology is not "unoptimized Python code waiting for a compiler upgrade."
You cannot debug malignant microenvironments, epigenetic plasticity or immune escape with a prompt, they argue. Leiden: "Any company that says they can do that—at least in our experience, we've looked at most of them—it's not true." Biology is messy, non-linear, stochastic and grounded in physical tissue.
