MiniMax Voice Acting Shines in Chinese but Underwhelms in English, Reddit Users Find
Suibeam · reddit · 2026-11-05
Reddit user Suibeam reports that MiniMax's h3 voice model delivers decent, emotionally expressive lines in Mandarin and Cantonese with little prompting—likely thanks to massive Chinese film/TV/audiobook training data. Chinese being tonal also guides delivery, and the model knows when colloquial speech should deviate from text.
English and other languages underperform, probably due to corpus differences. A shared trick: use accent marks (ú à ō) in English text to mimic tonal guidance.
