India's IT ministry secretary S. Krishnan says India aims to develop its first indigenous GPU within 24 months as part of building a full domestic AI stack—accelerator chips, power infrastructure, servers, models and applications—to reduce reliance on foreign firms.
The country recently announced a second round of semiconductor incentives worth ₹1,27,500 crore (US$15.3B), including 35% subsidies for advanced packaging and 40% for fabs. Krishnan also framed enterprise-wide AI adoption as a "Y2K-like" opportunity for India's IT services industry.
