Axiom turns entire Stacks Project into 16M lines of machine-checked Lean with agents
LinusEkenstam · x · 2026-11-05
Axiom released a 16M-line formalization of the entire Stacks Project — the reference work modern algebraic geometry has been built on for two decades — converted fully into Lean, where every line is machine-checked: it either holds up or it doesn't compile.
Beyond the size, the key achievement is structure: Stacks is a massive web where results lean on many others (compared to the Louvre's glass pyramid), and Axiom preserved that interconnected structure in a machine-checkable form. They ran agents like a software team — some owning architecture, some core definitions, some individual proofs.
The strongest counterexample yet to the assumption that AI-written code at scale is just slop.
