Anduril President's Playbook: Customer Knows the Problem, Innovator Knows the Tech
dougclinton · x · 2026-11-05
After talking with Anduril President Steck, Doug Clinton distilled three lessons for any tech company reinventing a legacy industry:
- The customer knows the problem. In defense, that's the government—don't fool yourself that you can build without the customer.
- The innovator knows the tech. Your job is to understand the tech better than the customer and build ahead of where their problem is heading—Anduril is world-class at this.
- Scale at speed. Lean teams are fast; big ones rarely stay fast. Anduril, SpaceX and Tesla show urgency starts with the founders.
Gene Munster added that Anduril is at its "Tesla Model 3 moment," ramping 20 products at once instead of one; with volume booked, the margin story changes fast once scale hits.
