Claude Code subagent status updates now written by Haiku, cutting usage cost ~99%

Claude Code now uses less of your usage limit for background subagents: a running subagent updates its status line every 30 seconds, and each update used to re-read the whole conversation. Haiku 5.5 now writes the update from short notes instead, making each update 99% cheaper. A user also shared a similar trick using Haiku to sort checklists, saving thousands of tokens per turn.
