A new Pew Research survey shows Americans want humans making final calls in healthcare AI:
- 47% accept AI diagnosis with human review, only 3% accept AI diagnosing alone, and 46% reject any AI role in insurance claims
- 60% would feel uncomfortable if their own doctor used AI for diagnosis and treatment, vs 30% comfortable, though 78% accept AI translating for patients
- 45% of adults under 30 expect worse patient outcomes, up from 29% in 2022
- 51% expect AI to worsen health-data security; 47% expect worse patient-doctor relationships
- Trust is thin: 58% doubt health insurers and 50% doubt AI companies will keep AI serving patients, vs only 25% doubting doctors
