Claude helps owner jailbreak NordicTrack treadmill, dodges $39/month iFit subscription for Netflix
peterjliu · x · 2026-11-05
A user with a $2-3k NordicTrack treadmill wanted to watch Netflix on its big screen, but iFit locked that behind a $39/month subscription. With Claude's help, he discovered the console screen is actually an Android 9 tablet running a small local server. Claude guided him through disabling iFit apps one by one and removing the lockdown and updater app — which had been re-locking remote access after every reboot and eating CPU. The treadmill now boots unlocked, and he streams Crunchyroll and Netflix for free. Quoted with a WALL-E still: "the end-state is Wall-E."
