Pangram Launches AI Video Detector After iPhone 18 Photos Were Falsely Flagged as AI
menhguin · x · 2026-11-05
AI-detection startup Pangram released two new models: an AI video detector and an upgraded image detector, scoring 98.57% and 99.96% accuracy on internal benchmarks respectively.
A notable wrinkle: the launch was delayed from mid-October after real photos shot on iPhone 18 Pros were flagged as AI-generated—possibly because Apple uses AI to process photos. Pangram bought "a whole bunch of iPhone 18 Pros" (team members earned one by taking 500 photos) to collect data and fixed the issue before launch. CEO Max Spero: "We have to consider a picture from an iPhone 'real,' not AI."
