Google has expanded its voluntary buyout program to employees in Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland, offering one month's pay per year worked — with Google Cloud and DeepMind notably excluded.
Last week Microsoft offered similar deals to 60,000 employees, about a quarter of its workforce. With Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta on track to spend $735 billion this year mostly on data centers and chips, Big Tech is cutting headcount to fund the AI buildout.
