AI 2027 authors 'spooked' as Anthropic S-1 hints recursive self-improvement may be imminent

Anthropic's updated S-1 filing added notable language on automated AI R&D and human oversight: based on internal estimates and expectations about future models, the company "may imminently" meet its Responsible Scaling Policy threshold for "dramatically accelerated progress attributable to AI" (2x acceleration over baseline). It notes capability gains are measured with lagging indicators — often identified only after the fact — and that if capabilities outpace safety, alignment, and security measures, risks include safety incidents, regulatory intervention, and reputational harm.
Daniel Kokotajlo of AIFP, lead author of the AI 2027 forecast, publicly said the team is "spooked": if Anthropic truly is about to hit the 2x threshold, timelines to full RSI and superintelligence may be shorter than AI 2027 depicted — naively optimizing AIFM parameters for 2x acceleration in January 2027 yields superintelligence earlier than their scenario. AIFP is reworking its model and promises a lengthier update next week.
