Japanese developer @namikahaiji built Little Letter, a web app that turns a child's handwriting into a custom font and calendar — just snap a photo of characters written on paper.

She originally made it for her own 4-year-old. Six months in, the child's writable character set has grown from romaji and katakana to nearly full hiragana coverage, and she plans to keep expanding the font as the child grows.
