SoftBank's IaaS subsidiary IDC Frontier confirmed its IDCF Cloud service in East Japan Region 1 was hit by ransomware on October 7 — reportedly breached in "seven minutes" — affecting nearly 500 corporate and municipal customers.
Virtual servers across four availability zones stopped and could not restart. The company warned customer data on affected infrastructure would be hard to retrieve, advising clients to rebuild from their own backups in a separate environment. Its management console remains down, forcing manual, per-client VM restoration.
Affected customers include ISP/Wi-Fi provider Fibergate (authentication services down) and Medialink (cloud telephony and IP-PBX offline), plus organizations across logistics, education, finance and the public sector. Parent SoftBank's telecom services appear unaffected.
