Nathan Lambert launches open model economy dashboard, probes how to measure inference growth
natolambert · x · 2026-11-05
Nathan Lambert has launched a free Interconnects dashboard aggregating public data on open model adoption, paired with a new paid research-notes series. The first note tackles how to measure open model inference share: whether the market is growing or a rounding error vs OpenAI/Anthropic. He uses Baseten, Fireworks, and Together AI as bellwethers plus OpenRouter's reported open model token share, noting hyperscalers likely hold major undisclosed share. The accompanying chart shows Fireworks growing from 50B tokens/day (May 2024) to 40T (2026), with OpenRouter's open model share reaching 18T/day. The dashboard data stays free while interpretation is paid.
