OpenAI acquires Git storage startup Pierre, assembling a GitHub challenger
mark_k · x · 2026-11-05
OpenAI is acquiring Pierre Computer, a developer-tools startup specializing in Git-based code storage infrastructure. Its technology is already used in Codex, and OpenAI plans to integrate Pierre's Code Storage directly into the platform.
The poster reads this as a significant move: with Codex, the recently unveiled Pando Git backend, and now Pierre, OpenAI is expanding beyond AI-powered coding into the infrastructure needed to store and manage code produced by AI agents at scale — the pieces of a serious GitHub competitor are coming together.
