Sam Altman: AI went from below top scientists to mostly matching them within a year
Aiden_Tech_Ai · x · 2026-11-04
Sam Altman says AI crossed a line this year that most people missed: at the start of the year it was mostly not as smart as our smartest scientists, now it mostly is; it mostly couldn't do white-collar jobs, now it can handle many parts of them.
He adds caveats — the claim is approximate, progress is spiky, and not true in every way — but closes calmly: "we are going to navigate through this all fine." The jump happened in months, not years.
