a16z Backs Phaze, a Remote Desktop Built for Giving AI Agents Full Workstations

a16z announces its investment in Phaze, a high-performance remote desktop that gives humans and AI agents a local-like experience on remote workstations.
Thesis: the industry learned that agent productivity is best unlocked by giving them a full desktop, browser and apps like a human — not agent API abstraction layers. Since apps are often OS-specific or hardware-bound, sophisticated users let agents connect remotely, which is exactly what Phaze enables.
Differentiators:
- Best-in-class for interactive, latency-sensitive workloads (e.g. agents driving Blender or Unreal Studio)
- Designed from the ground up for agents: seamless compatibility, management, administration
Team: founders Benjy Boxer and Chris Dickson previously built Parsec, the leading remote desktop for graphics-intensive apps, acquired by Unity — a16z invested and board-seated that company too.
