xgboost-metal open-sources Apple GPU-accelerated XGBoost via Metal port
HankYeomans · x · 2026-11-04
xgboost-metal ports XGBoost to Apple's Metal so gradient boosting can fully leverage Apple Silicon — particularly Apple GPUs. It keeps the familiar XGBoost Python API: train, predict, evaluate models, and compute feature contributions directly on your Mac's GPU.
Built on the original project in collaboration with Bing Xu and int21ai, the open-source release is a practical local-acceleration option for developers doing tabular ML on Macs.
