Sequoia shuts its London office, says it no longer needs a local presence in Europe

Sequoia has announced it is closing its London office, with several staff departing. The firm stressed the move is "not about the team – they are excellent," but that it simply doesn't see the need for a local presence, adding it believes Europe will continue to produce outlier founders that it can support from its Bay Area headquarters. The move mirrors a16z, which closed its own London office a few years ago, and may signal further retrenchment of US VCs in Europe.
