Study: ChatGPT ads generate 64% less revenue per visit than Google Search

Mordy Oberstein argues that three years into the AI search race, monetization remains unsolved: Google went all-in on AI Mode to chase ChatGPT, while OpenAI's ad experiment is underperforming too.
Per a study cited by Search Engine Land, ChatGPT ads generate 64% less revenue per visit than Google Search, and AI Mode ads barely move Google's revenue — in an environment where users grab information and leave, nobody has proven an ad model works. His punchline: both companies should wear "I'm with stupid" t-shirts.
