SOMA, the Claude Code CAD app, passes 1,000 users with a 9-minute bookshelf design walkthrough

Pr8tham · reddit · 2026-11-04

SOMA — the open-source app where Claude Code does CAD — has passed 1,000 users, and the author released a 9-minute start-to-finish tutorial: one prompt for a bookshelf, then sketching changes directly on the 3D view, parameter tweaks, an FEM check for shelf load capacity, and a technical workshop drawing (the drawing took Claude about 6 minutes), plus a phone stand via the 3D printing skill.

The key mechanism: Claude checks its own work — it builds the model, measures, and renders pictures it actually looks at before declaring done. Skills can be off, on-demand, or always-on so it only reads the rules it needs. Built with Claude Opus 5.5, free and open source on GitHub.
