The van der Schaar Lab at the University of Cambridge has opened applications for PhD positions starting in 2027, with submissions accepted only via the official web form.
Led by Mihaela van der Schaar, the lab builds new ML methods from first principles alongside experts in medicine, biology, and economics. Past work includes the first ML system used in the UK to forecast ICU and ventilator demand during Covid-19, breast cancer screening models beating clinical best practice, causal ML for organ transplant matching adding up to a year of life expectancy, cystic fibrosis forecasting models, and AI agent networks for biological hypothesis discovery.
The lab also recently welcomed four new PhD students and celebrated two completing their degrees.
