Chicago Kare: faithful reproduction of Susan Kare's 1984 Mac system font
genmon · x · 2026-11-04
Designer Duane King has released Chicago Kare, a faithful reproduction of the bitmap Chicago typeface Susan Kare created for Apple in 1984 — the Macintosh system font from 1984 to 1997. The post also flags Silkscreen, Jason Kottke's classic 5×5 web font from 1999. Kare recalled designing the fonts specifically for the screen: optimizing legibility, minimizing jaggies, and breaking free from traditional typefaces like Times or Helvetica.
