Comic layout tip: separate InDesign layers per language make trilingual comics painless
rufusd · x · 2026-11-04
Layout veteran rufusd shares a practical workflow for trilingual comic proposals: put each language's text (IT, EN, FR) on its own layer above one shared art layer, then toggle a single text layer per export — same pages, same art, one file to update.
He also notes French and Italian usually run longer than English, so size speech balloons for those languages first. This layer trick is exactly what made him switch from QuarkXPress to InDesign years ago.
